Kent State must have forgotten the golden roll
treat others as you would want to be treated.
On the wrestling mat, the Golden Flashes live
by their own set of rules pin other as you would not
want to be pinned yourself.
KSU used back-to-back falls to dominate the
Ashland University wrestling team, 36-3, at home on Thursday (Feb.
6, 2003).
At 133, Drew Opfer pinned Sean Minter at
the 4:01 mark then Ryan Simmons pinned Giovanni Scianna at
2:01 to give the Golden Flashes a 23-3 lead with four matches
remaining.
KSU dominated the match from start to finish,
winning nine of the ten matches. The lone Eagles victory
came from sophomore James Phillips at 125 where he
defeated Jared Opfer, 3-1 in overtime, to get AU on the board.
Kent State improved their record to 15-3 and
are ranked 25th in Division I while the Eagles evened their record
at 8-8.
AU will be in action on Thursday (Feb. 13,
2003) when the Eagles travel to Wheeling, WV to square off against
West Liberty State. The match is set for 7 p.m.
